Table
of light (2009) is the first interactive
platform for collective audiovisual mixing. The interface is composed of a
multi-touch interface that allows access to pre-recorded video “loops”, to a
“live” camera that can be manipulated by the public and to various graphic
effects. The installation’s aim is to invite up to six people to share the
position of VJing, paving the way for real time negotiations about what will be
done collectively.
The interface’s dialogic logic contrasts with the solitary work of the
film editor and the VJing, but the audience have to negotiate to make the
necessary decisions about what will be displayed on the screen, triggering
questions about the relationship between social behaviour, creative process and
digital interfaces.
